Advertising Week 2017 – 5 Speakers Not to Miss

August 3, 2017

New York City is THE place to be from September 25th to 29th if you work in the fields of advertising, marketing, or media. On these days, Advertising Week takes over the city and brings together the greatest minds in the industry together to share visions, passions, conversations, and opportunities.

This is a unique event that features many leadership programs and seminars, and there’s a truly impressive lineup of speakers on the schedule to discuss the current state of affairs and future of the industry. These are just a few of inspiring and influential industry leaders that you can learn from at AW New York and what you can expect when they take the stage.

Carolyn Everson, Facebook

Facebook marketing is big business these days, regardless of what industry you work in. But this is an especially crucial time for advertising and marketing professionals to learn tips in best Facebook practices from the pros. Carolyn Eversion, the vice president of Global Marketing Solutions at Facebook, will join the team of speakers at this year’s AW New York to share her challenges and successes on the job.

She has been listed in the “AdWeek 50” every year since 2013 and also in Business Insider’s “Most Powerful Women in Advertising. These days, the New Jersey resident oversees teams of regional leaders, global agencies, and the brand’s Creative Shop. Everson will be giving a Facebook seminar on Monday, September 25 at 11:15am at Playstation East. You can register for an AW New York pass to see her presentation on the event website.

Keith Weed, Unilever

The role of the CMO is evolving, as these professionals are now relied on to engage customers, drive revenue, work with data-driven insights, and oversee entire marketing plans for businesses. One of the CMO speakers in the lineup is Keith Weed, who is the CMO of Unilever.

Impressively, Weed not only handles marketing and communications at Unilever, but also the company’s sustainability agenda and the brand as a whole. His previous experience includes being the executive vice president for Global Home Care & Hygiene and the chairman for Lever Fabergé.

Weed was recently named the world’s most influential CMO by Forbes, and he’ll be speaking at AW New York on Monday, September 25 at 12:15pm at Playstation East. In his presentation called “The Whole Nine Yards,” he is expected to discuss how he is bringing Unilever’s brands into the digital world and taking a holistic marketing approach to put the consumer in focus. CMOs from other big brands, like Mastercard, Marriott, and Tecate, will also be taking the stage during AW New York to talk about their experiences in today’s high-tech marketing world.

Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg, Co-Founders of theSkimm

Not surprisingly, engaging the millennial demographic will be a hot topic at this year’s AW New York. In the modern media landscape, brands are coming to terms with the fact that they must find ways to connect with millennial audiences in unique ways and to integrate their brands into the daily routines of millennials.

The experts on this topic are Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg, who co-founded theSkimm and have been successful at targeting this fragmented and often-disengaged audience.

The brand that these women created has become incredibly popular with millennial women and has built an unprecedented sense of loyalty. Since launching theSkimm in 2012, the community has grown to over five million users and engaged female millennials in important issues, like registering to vote. Zakin and Weisberg are giving a presentation called “Routine Connection: Reaching Female Millennials on their Time” on Monday, September 25 at 11:15am at the Liberty Theater. You don’t want to miss their creative insights to learn how your brand can successfully attract millennial audiences as well.

Arianna Huffington, The Huffington Post and Thrive Global

One of the most influential names in American journalism is Arianna Huffington, who is the founder of The Huffington Post, the author of over a dozen books, and the CEO of Thrive Global. She has been named in Time Magazine’s “100 most influential people” and Forbes’ list of “most powerful women.” After shifting her career focus to health and wellness in business, Huffington is making a speaking appearance at AW New York in regards to her role at Thrive Global.

She is expected to speak about how important it is to have a healthy company culture and to create effective leadership in a business. And to do so, she’ll be joined on the stage by Frances Frei of Uber to highlight the ride-share company’s approach to work-life balance and leadership standards. Huffington serves on the board of directors at Uber and has helped to guide the company towards an effective strategy and cultural philosophy. It’s not always easy to make time to build up a healthy business culture in our fast-paced world, but studies and experience have revealed that this is more important now than ever before.  Check the official 2017 AW New York calendar for details on when and where to catch this presentation in late-September.

Ashley Iaconetti, Reality TV Personality

Another really fascinating trend in the advertising world today is the increased roles of influencers to promote brands and sell products. At 5:30pm on Monday, September 25, you can watch a panel discuss the role of celebrity influencer marketing at the Liberty Theater. The event is being hosted by Ashley Iaconetti, who got her start as a reality TV star on ABC’s hit TV show, “The Bachelor.”

She was always a fan-favorite when the show aired on television, and she has since turned that experience into a larger career in the entertainment industry.  Iaconetti has appeared on other “Bachelor” shows, “Access Hollywood,” many daytime talk shows, and now she has two podcasts. She often talks about the ups and downs of dating in the podcast, “I Don’t Get It,” and “Ben and Ashley I: Almost Famous” is all about pop culture and how it fits into our lives. But her role at AW New York is largely focused on how she became an influencer and trendsetter for both traditional media and social media. Attend this panel discussion to learn about how influencer marketing may help your business strategy, whether you’re a small business, operate a subscription box service, or work in e-commerce.
